Rendering!?!

Should we be making biofuels when we could be growing food? Are we just deluding ourselves when biofuel crops require fossil fuel inputs to create them. Is the whole idea of biofuels from crops a con?

Why grow a crop when there are wastes to be used as feed stocks. Rendering plants have oils to sell for biodiesel production and have grease fines that can be fed to anaerobic digesters for methane. So why grow a crop and burn fuel to plant , weed , harvest, process when there is a waste that needs to be used.
